Almost all mental and emotional healing involves the healing of wounds that occurred much earlier in life. To one degree or another, most, if not all, of us carry such wounds through much of our lives. Mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and addiction, typically have their roots in traumatic experiences from the past. These issues are natural and understandable responses to not having our human needs for safety, love and authenticity met at any stage in life, but most commonly in childhood and adolescence.
Compassionate, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive counselling can help to uncover wounding experiences from the past that form many of the mental, emotional and behavioural patterns that shape our later lives. Doing this work can help uncover these roots and begin the process of changing the patterns that do not serve us.
When personal healing feels generally well managed, often the next area of life concern is the domain of personal growth. Built on a foundation of self-compassion and self-acceptance, personal growth involves awakening greater aspects of our inner potential to live more fulfilling lives and enrich the lives of those around us. Some possible areas of focus for personal growth work include the development of authenticity, agency, mindfulness and creativity for the sake of improving aspects of our lives, such as career, relationships, health, and service to others and the world. Guidance and support is provided to help you identify your strengths and growth opportunities, set goals, and develop strategies and practices to achieve them.
Spirituality is the concern with matters that transcend our individual selves and everyday lives and that open up to questions about the ultimate nature of consciousness, existence, and the mystery of it all. Spirituality can be a part of someone's life from childhood, or, alternatively, can be brought about suddenly by a spontaneous spiritual awakening, a psychedelic experience, or a spiritual crisis, such as a profound loss or a close encounter with death.
Spiritual counselling is provided in an inclusive, open and welcoming context to help you clarify your beliefs and values, work through grief and confusion, and develop a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life.
